First Year

Community Life

As a first-year student at the main and lady Irene Campuses, you will be required live in a hall at the University. This comes with the benefit that you can easily access University resources such as wireless internet, an ample reading environment and the Library. Accommodation for students in the halls of residence is shared.

During your first year, you will take your meals with all other University students at the cafeteria. Here you will meet friends and enjoy interesting conversations with classmates and other students from upper classes.

With every aspect of the first year experience, we work to ensure your first year is a stimulating and seamless transition into the Ndejje community.

Fresher’s Week

First Year students are by tradition given an “acclimatization” period of normally one week which is referred to as the “Orientation Week”. The new students report to Campus one week earlier than the Continuing students and during this week they get to learn the key facilities in the University, offices as well as other important aspects of life at the University.

The students are also expected to take advantage of the week to survey and acquaint themselves with the general Campus lay out. Another major activity during the Orientation Week is Registration.

Fresher’s ball

The fresher’s ball is held usually at the end of orientation week, at the Main Campus for all first-year students at the Lady Irene and Main campuses, and at Kampala campus for those enrolled to study from Kampala. Students are entertained and meals are organized for all, and the event is always crowned by a dance that goes till late in the night.

Extracurricular activities

Campus-wide undergraduate activities are organized by the Freshman Dean’s Office, the Houses, or the Office of Student Life, in addition to those created by students themselves. Many are designed specifically for freshmen, including arts, intramural athletics, social events, and the “Reflecting on Your Life” series.
