Sports Union Executive sets bar high

The Sports Tutor has challenged the newly elected Ndejje University Sports Union executive to raise the sports bar higher than its predecessor.

Ivan karimunda made the remarks while officiating at the Sports Union elections held at the university’s Sports Hall of Fame, Luwero Main Campus.“I challenge you to surpass the record set by your predecessor. The outgone executive has set the bar very high and therefore you need to work extra hard to reset that record,” the Sports Tutor told the new executive.

He advised the new executive to immediately embark on preparations for the 2019 Kisubi AUUS Games slated for December. The Elections Returning Officer and Dean of Students Wilfred Muhumuza declared Atandu Jonathan (handball) the new Sports Union Chairmanship after polling 24 votes. He trounced Wakorach Jacob (athletics) 8 votes and Bamwesigye Andrew (rugby) 6 vote respectively. Galinda Racheal (swimming) was unopposed for Vice Chairmanship post and so was Nakiranda Brenda (netball) who gunned for General Secretary slot
Volleyballer Rajab Kimera won the treasurer’s seat with 36 votes beating outgone Sports Union Chairman Kisakye Ramadhan (handball) who got 2 votes while Wamali Douglous bagged 16 votes to claim the equipment office as Ongara Mandela Nelson (taekwondo) and Serwadda Rashid failed to win with 15 and 6 votes respectively. The two Team Doctor slots will be filled by chairman’s appointees. The Dean of Students closed the polls and recognised outstanding university sports personalities and teams that have this year won national accolades namely, athlete Dorcus Ajok who spurred Team Uganda to 4 th place in the World Cross Country relays in Denmark, the Netball Cheetahs lifting the 2019 National Rally trophy and the six taekwondoists selected on national team. The others recognized included Ongom Francis (handball), Jamila Nansikombi (basketball), Pulkol Carol (taekwondo) who won the USPA awards and soccer players donning the U17 national team colours in Tanzania to mention a few.
