1st Federation of Eastern Africa University Sports (FEAUS) Women Games:
Makerere University won the overall title of the 2022 Federation of Eastern Africa University Sports (FEAUS)
Women Games hosted by Busitema University.
The 1922 founded institution clinched 5 gold, 3 silver and one bronze medal in the 13 sports disciplines in the
two-day championship played on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
They came top in Lawn Tennis, Chess, Woodball, Rugby and Table Tennis.
Makerere University had silver medals in Handball, Netball, Scrabble with a bronze in swimming.
Only in the final lap did the man who holds the world record of 26:11.00 move into top gear to take on and then dismiss the challenge of the Ethiopian who beat him to Olympic gold at this distance last summer, Selemon Barega.
The university collected 22 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals.
Badminton (men and women) was won by Ndejje University, and long distance athlete Dismas Yeko won gold in the 5000m (14:05:05) and 10,000m (29:12:18). Sandra Chekwemoi won gold in the 3000m steeplechase (11:47:85)
Yeko was a front runner most of the time, exchanging the lead with German Markus Georger
and tactically staying behind teammate Wangwe before exploding in the final lap.
Budding long distance runner Dismas Yeko executed the perfect final kicks to claim gold
at the World University Cross-Country event in Portugal on Saturday.
